Acton’s Hermitage

As thought about after the Good Friday service and an order of fish and chips it I realized my problem. I was trying to live a dual life to the point I was approaching a mental breakdown. I am one who lives in and other subculture one of Loners, not those who stereotypical wish to harm others to who dedicated to a life of solitude. It why for example I am 48 and never married, I simply can not function with others except possibly another loner. The problem is my Loner tendencies are direct conflict with the communal nature of a furry fandom and social networking. In an allegorical way, I have a Black Bear inside me, when I am confronted I do not agree with, I turn around and isolate myself rather than confront. I only confront if it intrude on my life. It why I am I can Function as a Hello Kitty Fan and A Science fiction fan

In the end I will be making some changes. Acton is not longer the Republican Black Bear But now Acton the Hermit. It will be more reflective on my real life. I will soon move from a live journal to a word press blog on my own server. Here that hard part effective immediately I will be defrending most of you all. Please do not take it seriously, but unless you have something I am interested in or an interesting personality. I also must confess social networking conflict with my lifestyle. I do not make friends in quantity. This not to say I would not like to meet you at a fur meet or a con I just need my space.

The last bit was fun but there is a serous side. I am a bit sensitive on my Politics and Religion. If something that bothers me to where I feel my right of center politics and religion are attacked, my tendency is to shy away especially when they are alternatives. I guess what started was a few furs liberal rants, 2 The Ranting Gryphon, Uncle Kage, Funday Pawpet Show, Furs for Obama, Bill Hook a la Kevin and Kell, some furs on furtopia. The thing is I am torn is I met some good furs too.

There is none The no Hello Kitty for Obama or Bush Bashing, bashing of religious right under the guise of Sanrio fandom, in fact I say the same for Science Fiction and Anime fandom. Why all the politics in furry fandom.
I was originally go to say goodbye but I decide to stick around I might be lees incline to be active in the fandom. More money for Hello Kitty stuff.
If you are going to go politcs be nice or leave the fandom out of it.

I still will be posting here but I hold a philosophy of sticking to a cretin theme in my blogs, why I will blog about major non fury events in my life here it is not the purpose not to drift beyond furry.

Update
I still looking for a job I have a few close calls. My tuck is on it last leg, the mechanic say my recent problem is due to a coolant leak in the #2 cylinder, I will need to replace the truck when I get a job. It has 144000 miles on it, it time is about up.

Today’s furry :
if you check out my hello kitty blogs you know I am a big fan of the cat. Now you can know how much. Recently I am going through my small plushie collect determining the ones that will be going to Goodwill, I simply making more room for Sanrio memorabilia, I thought I would fancy a bear collection but I like Hello Kitty more. It not just I am suck for cute and pink but one of the problems I have about Furry fandom the lack of acceptable art and memorabilia.
Let get the yiff out o f the way, obvious it is a defiantly no in my life. Still I find much furry art clichéd for my taste, first we have the male in a semi erotic pose, no shirt, six pack abs, pants unbuttoned. Next there is the vixen in the bikini; the millennial generation dressed twentysomething with optional emo or punk grab and finally there natural with on all based Native American themes. Very little furry art grabs my attention and interest.

Now I am in the process of coveting my apartment to a furry den kittyfied  , I guess I could use a sportsman theme with natural bear art and a few plushies but natural art is not furry and I like some Disney but not enough to decorate my apartment with so that leaves Hello Kitty. Believe me I am doomed, today the bedding (sheets and two comforters) tomorrow the bathroom. In addition, I would like to find a Noren curtain to put t the door. I am tired of others peeking into my apartment when I have the door open.

In a suppressing bold move, Sanrio completes a takeover bid of Disney. Details are sketchy at this time. Rumor has it that the merger was a result of breakdown in talks between Obama Administration and Disney over a proposed Disney bailout. One administration official spoke off the record “with AIG and GM messin with our minds and Rush Limbaugh riding our asses we just do not have the time or money”. Calls to Senator Dodd’s office over possible foreknowledge of the deal remain unanswered.
Already Sanrio is releasing a new commercial to the media today.

Irish / Guinness Stew and home made soda bread. No Corned Beef for me.

Thursday
Woke up around 6:00am I wanted to beat the rush hour travel. Frontier names there planes after animals and I got Lance the Ocelot for the Portland to Denver leg. The only problem was I had to deal with a family with their two scramming kids and a mother without modesty. I lost it after two hours and cursed the mother that the kids give the mother as much grief as the kids given me. The Denver to Dallas leg was on Grizwald the Grizzly Bear (Frontier Airlines names planes after animals. In addition, a good omen to fly the bear). I got to the con hotel and I finally met  then and went out to the Blue Goose for Mexican food. The place is very good and the freshly made flour tortillas cannot be beat.

Friday:
This will get thin here, Fury Fiesta had very little in the way of organized events. I assume it was they though it going to be a small social convention I spent most of my time meting new furs. or watch the expression of non attendees; there was Orthodontist convention going on at the same time. I got to meet  and spent time talking to Phil Geusz caching up form the last time we met at the first Rainfurrest. I decide to take around my new travel Hello Kitty, I would love to bring the 22in one or bigger but I do not have the room. Unfortunately my experiment had mix results showing some averment to Hello Kitty by furries with a raccoon trying to eat my kitty. He made up with a group picture. After the opening ceremony I went out with  , KT (Kinky Turtle), Dingo and another whose name I can’t remember went out Texas de Brazil Churrascaria aka the meat faucet for a serious meat-ex (exercise in Navy lingo).

Saturday was the same except I finally go to meet Narei Mooncatt and watch Draconius perform as Calamity Cougar and shot off a roll of film and may a picture of me with a few cuties. I also picked up a hand painted d bear head on wood, it will make a great addition to my Christmas Tree.

Sunday I took time to attend Holly Communion Church, a Reformed Episcopalian church with a long and interesting history. It was originally Native American sacred ground latter used as a stopping off point for the cattle drives. The church was founded in the 1870’s by Methodist and became Episcopalian. I walked among the settlers old-timers grave stones noting the number of grave stones place by decedents of civil war veterans….all Confederates. (I did not dare to ask where the Union section was
It was back to the convention and I caught some of the fursuit games and meeting more furs, the numbers started to draw down to a few hundred at the closing ceremonies, 50 around 11:00pm then 20 at midnight with Firr doing fee drawing in fursuit.

Monday I walked the convention grounds most were quite but the in some room the howl of furries was replaced by the cheers of motivation speakers. So after I returned the car and went back to the airport…

Post CON.

When I made plans to attend fury Fiesta, I made a decision make this a real vacation and flight out to San Antonio, I was station there with my father in the 1970’s. I flew in and checked in to my hotel and did the Alamo and Riverwalk. The next day I picked up the rental and spent the day touring, taking pictures and drawing at the San Antonio Missions National Park. The Alamo is not the only Mission but one in a string of missions. Wednesday I packed everything up and went home.

The lowdown:
Convention: 8 out of 10 I would give it more if it had more organized events. The staff was amazing epically handling almost twice as much attendees without a major incident.

The Hotel 10 out of 10: I usually scoff at the question “did business X made you feel like a valued customer” I have to say yes to the staff at Crowne Plaza Hotel Addison TX.

Over all I had a great time I wish I can say I will be back but Fury Fiesta is a out of region convention. My home convention is RainFurrest. There ar others I want to do like Anthrocon, Megaplex, Fur Fright, Midwest FurFest I only have so much money and time to attend conventions. Time will tell.

In San Antonino it was sunny and will reach 82F. Got home Yesterday at 7:50pm it was rainy as anything in Portland, This morning there was snow on the ground. Tonight it will be in the 20's
Had a good day of job hunting I was call ed by another company but I already submitted to two other firms

I had a great time in San Antonino and in Dallas.

I will get to writing a more formal con report when I get back.

Sunday was bitter sweet, the last day. I went to a Reformed Episcopal church for morning services then rushed back.  I was disappointed with the Filk panel, and except for keeping the beat the panel was more about parody and his profanity. The coloring  panel was ok. Moat of the cons I spent in the little used con suite. After the closing ceremony, I watch thing dwindle for hundreds, to 30 plus four fursuiters around 11:00pm, where I got a free drawing by Firr in fursuit.  The number of furs still out dwindle  about 15 at 12:00am. Next morning I returned the car and took one last walk around noting how quiet and the howls of furs been replace by howls forma motivation seminar. From there I went to the airport and flown out to San Antonio doing the turist thing  until Wednesday.

Hi folks It been a while since I given any report. I have a great time at Furry Fiesta. My goal is to meet new furs and many furs I know about but never get a chance to see because they do not go to the NW corner of our country or I never had a chance to visit central or east coast cons. One phenomenal fact is the attendance; they were originally planning on around 270 or so now the count about 550.
One thing abut this con was the low number of panels, I think of they had the same space as All Fur Fun. The again if one has been to a furry panel you most likely seen them all. Friday I spent the time talking with furs running into  and  or watch the expression of non attendees; there was Orthodontist convention going on at the same time. I got to meet Bucktown Tiger and spent time talking to Phil Geusz caching up form the last time we met at the first Rainfurrest.
