Its That Time Again
February 24th, 2010Greymuzzles are we being ignored?
February 1st, 2010Recently I decide not to do away with Action but to express him differently as a bear in the Sanrio (Hello Kitty) universe. Over the last few months, I find myself drawn in to Hello Kitty / Sanrio Fandom because of their acceptance of me as an older male fan.
The big gripe I have with the furry and anime fandom is they are mostly young and tend to be stand offish in respect to older fans. I have not seen much hostility but I seem to be ignored; being a loner, being invisible at Furry or Anime conventions is not an issue for me. I do not fall into the mistake of try to act younger than I am. In addition, the young fans who cannot acknowledge the fandom has existed before they were born bother me
I have another fandom to compare with various fandoms. There are a fair number of Hello Kitty fans in their 30+ at Hello Kitty Junkies. At Hello Kitty, junkies I am only one of 36 male fans of 2566 registered. I am a player of Hello Kitty Online MMORG. I was invited to join the sailor Scouts guild, made of many players who played since the open beta of November 2008. My Hello Kitty blog was recognized as blog of the week at Sanrio town. Yes, I sue my blog to share not just my interest in Hello Kitty but to explain Furry Fandom to this outside Furry fandom. I get a much more positive response than furries and anime fans.
I not sure one can do anything about it. As I said, I am not going to act younger as a vain attempt to try to relate. I feel online relationships to furries and anime fans are distant at best.
What Discovery Health Thinks of the Fandom?
January 21st, 2010I been listening in on the All Fur Fun Forums, The owner has been posting letters from (Freak ) Reality show produces who want to “Interview” furries.
“Hello,
My name is Michele Spinak and I work on a program you may be familiar with that airs on Discovery Health Channel called I’m Pregnant and…
The show airs Tuesday nights at 9:30pm. Four out of our six episodes have aired. They have been very successful so we have been asked to gear up for a second season.
We are doing our initial outreach for the second season and one topic we are looking to include is I’m Pregnant and…a Furry. I was hoping to speak with someone in greater detail about the program and the outreach I am doing. Please give me a call at your earliest convenience. I look forward to hearing from you.
Best,
Michele Spinak”
Some had don some research and found
- I’m Pregnant and Addicted
- I’m Pregnant and Homeless
- I’m Pregnant and I Have An Eating Disorder
- I’m Pregnant and 55 Years Old
- I’m Pregnant and Bipolar
- I’m Pregnant and In Prison
The show sounds like another shock the audience reality shows.
If that not enough here another letter:
“I am also casting for another program for Discovery Health Channel called Strange Sex. We were looking to do a segment on Furries for that program as well. I know only some Furries are into the sexual aspect of it all. I was wondering if you could suggest people for me to reach out to about the program. We are just simply trying to tell the story of what it is because I think a lot of people have different conceptions about what being a furry really is.”
What in hell Mr. Spinak thinks we are, some freak show for his business aspirations.
To me he just another Hollywood schlock want to make a buck by pedaling trash TV,
Con Report: MEWcon
January 17th, 2010The Con: Mewcon or Manga and Exsotic Worlds Convention
The Place: Red Lion Inn Vancover WA
The Time 31 Dec to 2 Jan 2010
Mew con is an Anime, SF and Fantasy convention in Vancover WA. The convention is small and what I consider a relax-a-con. Relax a con is a term a friend came up to describe small convention that doesn’t have much in the way of organized events, so much of the time is spent with friends or lounging around.

The opinions expressed here are the views of the writer (Action) and do not necessarily reflect the views of the furry community nor posting of my opinion does not in any way enter a convenient relationship with the furry community.
In other words do lay this “why you are causing drama in the furry community” line on me. I am not you and you are not me. In addition, I never recalled joining your idea of community and have to sway over my life. Finally, you do not have to read what I am posting below the cut.

Orycon31 Convention Report
December 3rd, 2009The Con: Orycon31 the Science Fiction Convention
The Dates 27-29 November 2009
The Place : Double Tree Hotel, Portland Oregon.
This is my third Orycon Science Fiction convention I attended. My adventure or misadventure started around January attempt to volunteer for staff. Volunteer days ended due to lack of communications and direction by the volunteering and PR departments of Orycon to the point I became discouraged and decided it better to focus on other conventions. With Thursday freed up, I decide to go visit my mother in Tacoma for Thanksgiving dinner. Next day I woke up had breakfast dove back to Portland and the Hotel, I got in around 2:00pm and picked up my badge.

It’s a quickie. I did not have time to breakout my nib pen set and do Stippling.
Orycon and Podcasts
November 13th, 2009I already registered and will be attending Orycon, The Science Fiction convention over the Thanksgiving weekend in Portland Oregon. I need to apologize for not pressing for furry events at Orycon. My recent stint of unemployment during Spring and Summer had me wondering will I still me living in Oregon in November less going to Orycon. I have we can perhaps do a meal or a meet and greet.
I will not be volunteering at Orycon as I said in my earlier. Instead I want to give attention to the furry community and Rainfurrest. If they ask for a few hours, I will give it to them. My decision is probably 60% not knowing how to volunteer at Orycon, 20% the Orycon staff culture which tends to be a closed tight nit group and 20% bad experiences include the flap about trying to get promotional martial to take with me to Rainfurrest. There seem to be no place for an old fur. This begs question was there a problem with me or because I am a furry. If the later, I hope not, perhaps we need to question how much support we can expect from Oregon Science Fiction Conventions concerning bringing furry convention to Portland. I think it is prudent some of us to talk to furries who sponsored events at Orycon 29 and earlier about their experiences first.
On a brighter topic thanks to Woyro I tuned into Anthropomorphic Dreams Blog and downloaded s reading of anthropomorphic fiction to listen to at work. I found The Thing in the Toyshop interesting. Nice Furry fiction grounded in Fury’s Science Fiction Roots. I need to get away for political podcast for a while.
